PTE Answer short question introduction

PTE Answer Short Question is one of the question types in PTE with maximum number of questions in a test. Imagine! 10-12 questions coming at you one after another, with almost no break in between.

PTE Answer short question

Well! Yes, that is what PTE Answer Short Question is about.

In this question type you will first hear a short question and then you have to record your answer to it. Your answer should be one word or a couple of words – no need to form full sentences!

For e.g. if you hear – How many days are in a week? You can just say – “seven”. Do not say “There are 7 days in a week”.

As I said there are 10-12 questions of this type in the test. They come quickly one after the other.

Therefore, it is important that you maintain your focus.

If you don’t know the answer to one question don’t let that effect the subsequent questions.

What is the source of these questions?

The PTE Answer Short Questions do not require any specific subject knowledge. Most of the questions depend upon your general knowledge. You don’t need to brush up any subjects to answer these questions, though it is a good idea to do some daily language practice on a website like npr.org. Some of these questions might require some logical thinking but nothing too complicated. So, as long as you do not panic you will be able to answer all these questions.

What does your score depend upon?

The score depends largely on your correct answer. Since you only speak a word or couple of words there is not much chance to assess your fluency or pronunciation. As long the words that you have spoken are clear and understood correctly by the PTE software you will get full marks.

This question type also contributes to the score of your listening section.

So it is a good opportunity to do well in the exam if you get all 10-12 questions right. You can find more helpful advice in our PTE Answer Short Questions Tips and Tricks article.
